Nobody Get's Out of Life Alive

Wow, look, a post! Because of an observation that I had to share.

I came from a corporate culture. Time is money and money is everything sort of place. A place where my boss was reprimanded because he had an unopened bottle of wine in his office that he received as a Christmas present.

Now I work for a non-profit, Catholic University. I have accepted that it's perfectly okay (if not encouraged) to drink alcohol at University functions (as long as they're after 4pm). Yesterday, we had a going away party for a co-worker and the department bought a lot of beer. Cases of beer. There's quite a bit left over, which is now sitting in our company fridge. Yep, right next to my little sack lunch is a case of Bud and several bottle of Corona. Yep, nothing goes better with a turkey sandwich than an ice cold one.

Too bad Homer Simpson doesn't work here.

While visiting my local coffee shop, on their blackboard it read "All you need is 20oz of love". If the 20oz would be love, what would 16oz bring me? "We just want to be friends"? What about the 12oz? "Please don't call me again"?

If I ever owned a coffee shop, what would my drink sizes be called? Because at Starscmucks, they have odd names for their cups. (As an aside, in Italian, Vente is "20" and Grande is "large" and Tall means nothing, they just want you to feel good about buying a small cup of coffee.) Perhaps I would name my cups after local mountains? But Mt Massive would be my medium.

What would you call your coffee sizes? Or what would you call your drink of the day?

Sorry, it's been forever since I've updated. My life has been pretty dull (with one exception), basically work and school and home, then repeat. But there is one exciting thing going on. Read about it behind the cut.

At the university I work for, we have this annual literary magazine. (And when I say magazine, I mean badly Xeroxed pages stapled into a booklet and given away for free.) And I'm thinking about taking a couple of the 200 or so drabbles I've written, polish them up (aka change the names from Wesley and Gunn to...ah...Wesley and Charles) and submit them to this magazine. Is this horribly wrong?

How many have your name?

According to this quiz, there are 3,017,684 people in the U.S. with my maiden name. Ah, I loved my old name. Everyone knew how to say it, how to spell it. It was beautiful, bland anonymity.

Yep, bought on by a bout of boredom and inspired by this week's challenge (insomnia), at [info]open_on_sunday, I wrote a story which ended up being longer than 100 words. Woot!

I'm surprised by how many of you guys are saying that you have a long weekend. Until this job (working at a Catholic University) I never heard of people having Good Friday off. Hell, I use to work on Easter. So I'm just curious, how many of you people are lucky like me?

I'm thinking about creating a journal for my real life. I'm not looking for a place where I can air out all of my drama, because I have none (thank god!). But a place where I can post my believes, my studies, my...I dunno, stuff. Real life, non-fanish stuff.

Whaddya think?

I work with a woman who is Catholic and she is trying to decide what to give up over lent. So everyone in our office (the whole 2 of us) are willing to suffer along with her.

Here's my question: Is it just a type of food you abstain from or can it be anything you enjoy? Like reading smutty stories? Sleeping in on Saturday's? Not folding socks?

Stemming from a conversation with co-workers today, we get a poll.

You hear a noise in middle of the night. You're not sure what it was. It could be someone breaking into the house or it could just be the wind. Either way, you want to investigate. What do you do?

We're have in international/ethnic potlock at work next week and I want to bring something. But the problem is that I am more American than Wonderbread and I have no family recipes which are ethnic. Unless Sloppy Joes counts.

So I'm begging, begging I tell you, for international recipes. I don't care what it is for, as long as it's yummy. Please, help a generic girl out.

Thank you.

Don't you hate it when you get a story in your head and it won't leave you alone until you write it? This thing has been plaguing me all morning.

It's the type of story [info]snoopygirll hates. It doesn't explain what happened to Jack, it switches back and forth in POV, and I bet there are a lot of grammatically errors because I wrote it quickly and reviewed it even quicker. So if you guys catch these boo-boos, let me know.

I'm posting this more for my benefit. Last year I tried to keep a book journal, but I forget to update it. So here's another chance for 2006. I don't get a lot of time to read for pleasure, so I have to enjoy them when I can.

I've gotten 10 out of 25 and that is with cheating by going to IMDb.
